Locksmith Toronto Residential Commercial Lock Rekeying
Lock Rekey - What Is It?
Lock Rekeying or having your lock rekeyed is the process that a Professional Locksmith goes through in order to change the
key that currently operates your lock. This process includes the disassembly of your lock in order to access the pins
contained within so that they can be replaced. If you look at your key, you will notice that there are cuts in the key at
various depths. The cuts in your key correspond with the length of each pin housed within your lock. A Professional
Locksmith will change these pins in order to allow a new and different key to operate your lock.
What Are The Benefits Of Having Your Locks Professionally Rekeyed?
If your locks are all made by the same manufacturer, a Professional Locksmith can make them all work with just one key for
your convenience. This is called keying alike your locks. Keyed alike locks pose no additional threat to your family or
property and is done solely for the clients' convenience. It is every bit as safe and secure as having all of your locks operated
independantly, all by different keys.
Will Keys That Others Currently Posess Operate My Locks After My Locks Have Been Rekeyed? Absolutely not! The only key that will operate your lock is the one that we issue to you. Any keys that others posess will
cease to operate the locks when they have been rekeyed.
Can All Residential And Commercial Door Locks, Even High Security Locks, Be Rekeyed By Your Company?
That really depends on who the manufacturer of your door lock is. If they are high security locks, unless our company
supplied and installed the locks, you would have to find the company that did in order to have these type of locks rekeyed.
If you look at the tip of your key, you will notice that there is a pattern that the key is formed in. That pattern, as far
as high security locks go, is specific to the Locksmith Company that supplied and installed the lock. They are the only
Locksmith Company who could perform a Lock Rekey Service for you.
My Friend Claims To Be In Possession Of A Master Key That Will Open Any Lock, Is This Possible? Absolutely not! A Master Key is issued and operates within the constraints of a Master Key System. The System is
designed for ease of access to suites in High Rise Apartment Buildings and some Condominiums. A Master Key is used by
Superintendents or Property Management to quickly gain access in the event of an emergency situation like a fire or flood
within an individual suite. A Master key will gain access to every suite within the constraints of the Master Key System. It
is physically impossible for one key to open every lock currently available on the market.
